Fill in an application form that includes but is not limited to:

  5. Referrals from others in the community.

Once meeting all of the above requirements, applications will be reviewed by one or two of the following people: Myrna Lewis, an Elder and the Director of the Lewis Method Facilitation Programs. They will consider feedback regarding the applicant from.

  • Instructors who run the programs that the applicant attended
  • I Know Me (IKM) analyst who completed the assessment and ran the individual feedback session.

Please note: That as an application is being considered we will request that the analyst of the IKM inform us if they believe that the applicant is suitable for the Lewis Facilitator Program - Foundation Level. However, importantly, none of your personal information will be shared. If the analyst does not believe that applicant is suitable for the Lewis Facilitator Program - Foundation Level then the applicant is offered a discussion with Myrna and Pru (Director of the Lewis Method Facilitator Programs).

Please note that completion of the Lewis Method Facilitator Program - Foundation Level is not required to move on to become a Deep Democracy Level 1 Instructor but it is strongly encouraged. Program Pathway and Phases

Phase 1

Complete pre-work consisting of reading, exercises and journaling.

Phase 2

3 x 90-minute Teaching calls via video conferencing (via Skype or Zoom).

Phase 3

Face-to-face* either observe, or co-facilitate a group process with an accredited Lewis Method Deep Democracy facilitator (or Instructor) for approx. 3-4hrs.

This opportunity becomes available by either you creating an opportunity for the facilitator to facilitate a group process or facilitator inviting you to observe them doing existing work. At the end of this session you will have a debrief and co-planning session with the accredited facilitator or Instructor to support you to feel prepared for your upcoming independent session.

Phase 4

1. 1 x Face-to-face facilitate a group process (approx. 3-4hrs) with an accredited Deep Democracy facilitator (or Instructor) observing.

Following this the accredited Deep Democracy facilitator will:

  1. Debrief with you and
  2. Advise and co-plan for your next session on your own so that (in other words provide technical supervision) and any extra ‘teaching’ you require.

2. Elder Supervision After the debrief you receive your 1st deeper Elder supervision session via a video conference.

Phase 5

  1. 2 x Face-to-face independently (on your own) facilitate a group process for 8- 20m people (approx. 3 hrs for each session)
  1. Deeper Elder Supervision Following each of your independently facilitated group process sessions you will have a deeper Elder supervision session (2nd and 3rd).

Phase 6

Qualifying and becoming an accredited Lewis Method Facilitator - Foundation Level

You will qualify with a discussion taking place between the Elder, accredited Deep Democracy facilitator (or Instructor) that you’re working with and Myrna and/or  Pru (Pru Gell is the Director of the Lewis Method Facilitation Programs).

Please note: While the standard program pathway is outlined above, if at any point the accredited Deep Democracy facilitator (or Instructor) that you’re working with or the Elder feels that you need more experience, in discussion with you, further practice sessions will be implemented. This increases the cost of the program. This will be discussed if/as the need arises.

When you qualify, you will become accredited and sign an annual license agreement. This involves:

  1. Monthly supervision and associated costs. Supervision will be carried out with a qualified Elder and done in closed groups of 3-4 people. Attendance at these is not negotiable.
  2. Registering and advertising events that you are holding on the website.
  3. Your name and contact details will be included under Accredited Facilitators on the Lewis Method web page.

Cost of the Program

  • Phases 1 to 4: AU$1536 per person. This per person cost is based on 2 participants training together and sharing the costs of Phases 1 to 4 – excluding the Elders supervision after the facilitation of the first group process in Phase 4.
  • Phase 5: AU$1394 per person. Recoup Phase 5 costs from group participants’ fees:
    • 3 x group sessions x 8 participants each = 24 delegates
    • 24 delegates paying around AU$58 each = AU$1392
  • AU$326 payment for the IKM (if not done previously)
