CORESOLVE PROGRAMS
Powered by the Lewis Method of Deep Democracy CoResolve is a learning package developed specifically for leaders within teams and organizations.  In this view, a leader is identified as anyone driving a process to achieve an objective. Leaders are the people who champion ideas, set agendas, manage relationships, chair meetings, direct efforts and at times are required to restrain as well as advocate change processes.  Some leaders have an official leadership title, others don’t. But all leaders have a stake, often a big stake, in their work, and how they get their own voices and the voices of others heard has a significant impact on the success of their initiatives. CoResolve gives leaders the theoretical background, instructions, experiential learning opportunities, and long term support that they need to begin using the powerful tools of the Lewis Method of Deep Democracy in day-to-day meetings and other leadership processes. Programs are available as follows:
  • Leadership - designed for organisations.
  • Youth Speaks - provides a classroom-friendly version of the Lewis Method of Deep Democracy toolkit. It enables teachers and educators to convene difficult conversations and resolve tension and conflict in educational settings at all levels, from primary schools to universities.
  • Special Projects - these are designed in response to specific requests. For example, CoResolve was recently introduced to people on the autistic and asperger spectrum, supported by a Social Company in Sweden, to enhance communication skills thus enabling them to re enter the workforce.
  • Instructor training - Part of the set of Lewis Method advanced programs, the instructor training will embed your skills as a CoResolve practitioner, as well as equip you to teach the CoResolve Program.
Lets Talk
lets-talk-gold

Perhaps the most universal way that people experience and suffer from conflict is in the context of their interpersonal relationships. Every day, everywhere on earth, there are fights breaking out between friends, neighbours, colleagues, business partners, parents and children, siblings, lovers and spouses. Given the importance of relationships to our overall well-being, these conflicts can be very disruptive and unsettling. So most of us avoid them for as long as we possibly can – sometimes until it is too late to resolve them.

The Lewis Method of Deep Democracy takes the perspective that conflict in relationships is a direct result of our diversity (whether identity-based or intellectual) and as such is both a natural occurrence, and, if approached well, a gateway to personal and relational growth. While this may sound crazy to most of us who are conflict averse, conflict is an opportunity to learn and to find creative ways to evolve a relationship which lie beyond differences of opinion or preference or desire. By engaging in the conflict – particularly if we do it early and often – we may be able to enrich and even save the relationships that mean the most to us.

Designed to help with interpersonal challenges, Let's Talk is an easy to learn 4-step process which enables and empowers people in a relationship, be it professional or personal, to resolve conflicts and move towards shared decision-making. It has been piloted through couple coaching and is now available for those who want to try it out on their own in their significant relationships.

I Know Me Profile

I-KNOW-ME PROFILE

The I-Know-Me is a personality profiling tool.  It is informed by a kernel theory of Sigmund Freud's, the Obsessive Repetitive Compulsive Pattern. This theory suggests that we develop certain patterns of behaviour based on the parenting and socialization processes of our early childhood. These patterns form our coping mechanisms and influence the way we respond to people, our world and ourselves. Our coping mechanisms are our biggest strength and our Achilles heel. They determine our unique personality and limit us from fulfilling the true potential that lies within us.

Eric Bern, father of Transactional Analysis, built on Freud’s theory and termed it the Script Pattern Analysis. He purposefully compared a Script Pattern to a theatrical script in that, just as a theatrical script directs performance, the Script Pattern consciously or unconsciously directs how we relate to others, the world and ourselves.

Richard Erskine, a Transactional Analyst and follower of Bern, described how in our day to day functioning we respond in a manner that evokes and reinforces the Script Pattern. He called these behavioural responses the “Rackety Pattern”. The I-Know-Me Profile is based on Richard Erskine’s rackety pattern.

The Lewis Method provides theory and practices for working with groups and individuals, and is particularly useful for resolving relationship and group dynamics that are emotionally charged or marked by diversity and difference. In CoResolve we have honed these tools for leaders. In this method a leader is identified as anyone driving a process to achieve an objective. The CoResolve program gives you the theoretical background, instructions, experiential learning opportunities, and long term support that you need to begin using the powerful tools of the Lewis Method of Deep Democracy in your leadership.

This enables the integration of the new skills. These groups usually take place in virtual space and are time and cost effective.

  • Individual Coaching

Leadership is based on self -awareness. A trained CoResolve coach assists the leader integrate the new found knowledge and skills to his/ her personality during 3 to 6 one on one coaching sessions.

  • The I-Know-Me Personality Profile

This provides the leader with insight into her or his personality patterns and how she or he can maximize the benefits of the program. The I-Know-Me (IKM) profile is gained through the completion of a detailed questionnaire. The professional analysis and report is given to the participant by a highly trained IKM analyst, via an hour long session (usually via the internet).  The information from the IKM profile helps the participant maximize their learning and integration during the group coaching and or individual coaching sessions.

PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE PROGRAM

Leigh Anne Albert

Senior Manager at MAC Consulting Johannesburg, South Africa

"There was a really conflictual situation with me and another guy on the team. Our director actually sat us down, and told us that we were going to use some CoResolve things. We had about a 45-minute discussion breaking down the issue, identifying what the problems were. He followed it to the T.  It was actually one of the more stressful colleague situations I’ve had in a while. I have to say, it was a little bit raw afterward, but it was a safe environment. I have a fabulous relationship with this guy going forward, and we really do work well together. It was really, really effective.

The evidence of effectiveness of my use of Deep Democracy in my project management role is abundant. All of the my projects are interdisciplinary, multi-stakeholder and multi-country. They are all delivered on-time, exactly what the customers wanted and come with little sense of tension or conflict. I know that this is a cause and effect relationship because this is the technique that I use and I use it all the time.”

Fred Wittevenn

National Director at World Vision

Islamabad, Pakistan

Deep Democracy (Lewis Method) has offered an approach unlike any other and has proved invaluable. It is one of the toolkits that can be applied in a variety of contexts, from ordinary organizational issues through to highly complex and contentious community issues. We have used it extensively within urban and rural development contexts.”

Wanda Everts

Everts Mediation & Coaching

Zwolle, Netherlands

In my law career, I experienced very often that
people said yes, but did no. In other words, they would say yes on stage, but behind the curtains, it was “no way”. That does a lot of damage to communication and relationships. But being able to do as you say you will do, and to really find out what is needed to be good for what you say—that’s very important to me, professionally, and that’s what The Lewis Method of Deep Democracy has really added for me: making certain that a yes really will be a yes in practice.”

Leslie Westray

HOD & Manager of Structural Design Division for DRA Global Johannesburg, South Africa

CoResolve tools are useful in client meetings, and attaining contracts from clients. As opposed to simply discussing superficial issues, we use CoResolve to diffuse tension in the room, and also to understand why a client might not want a contract with our company. By listening to potential client's concerns, we can proactively address any issues, show the potential client that we have their best interests at heart, and broker a successful deal.”

Georgina Veldhorst

Senior Director Local Health Integration Network Markham, Ontario

I have used Deep Democracy to facilitate an internal strategic planning process. There were 15 people at the table. Just the vision could have taken us hours, but to our delight we finished the strategic plan in that session. We used the tools to get us to work through things we would have never got agreement on but once we got into it, it was quick. It is an efficient way of doing things.”

Director at Cole, Port & Woollon Limited Swindon, United Kingdom

CORESOLVE YOUTH SPEAKS

Dealing with hot topics in educational settings has the potential to be a powerful learning opportunity, and a potentially disastrous endeavour. Discussions of large historic or current societal conflicts often bring these issues right into the classroom, possibly dividing the learners. Teachers often avoid addressing sensitive topics because they are concerned they won’t be able to handle them well, or that they may offend someone or some group. While these concerns are legitimate, leaving the sensitive topics out of the classroom is an enormous missed opportunity. It is exactly these issues that capture the attention of learners, providing disruptive and transformative learning opportunities. And the classroom represents one of the only spaces in which we can learn to have productive conversations.

Recognizing the above, CoResolve Youth Speaks provides a classroom-friendly version of the Lewis Method of Deep Democracy toolkit. It enables teachers and educators to convene difficult conversations and resolve tension and conflict in educational settings at all levels, from primary schools to universities.

The Method supports young people, teachers and practitioners to learn about themselves and others by engaging in structured conversations and discussions. It turns these moments into learning opportunities. Working with this method and tools will also help to foster a culture of participation, dialogue, involvement and mutual respect at school.  EVENS FOUNDATION, www. evensfoundation.be.
